When is an Ex-approved IBC Required?
The need for an Ex-approved IBC depends on both the characteristics of the filling product and the environment in which the container will be used.
Generally, Ex-approved containers are required:
- For filling products with a flash point of 60°C or below.
- In areas where flammable vapour or gas atmospheres are present, where only Ex-approved containers should be used.
When selecting an IBC, it’s important to consider both the product being handled and the operating environment to ensure the correct solution is chosen.
Approved Areas of Use
Ex-approved IBCs are designed for use in designated hazardous environments, subject to the relevant operating conditions and applicable regulations.
For example, SCHÜTZ ECOBULK Ex-approved IBCs are suitable for use in Ex-zones 1 and 2 when handling filling products in explosion groups IIA and IIB, provided the specified operating conditions are met.

- Electrostatic charges generated during liquid transfer should be safely dissipated to earth.
