Form-A-Round Circular Formwork

We manufacture cardboard disposable formwork, Form-A-Round, for use in the building trade for pouring concrete columns and pillars.

"The biggest advantage of paper columns is for multiple pours. You can pour an entire floor with one concrete batch."
Noel Scanlon (Foreman), Treform Ltd (General Contractors)
  • Supplied to exact specifications with or without fairface liners and with quick-strip ripcords.
  • Formwork ranges in size from 200mm to 1200mm diameter and lengths up to 13 metres.
  • Disposable column formwork is inexpensive, fast and simple to use.
  • Provides a high spec finish.
  • Form-A-Round is supplied ready to use and can be erected in approximately 15 minutes.
  • Form-A-Round formwork requires minimum bracing and is easily plumbed.

  • Industrial Packaging offers a disposal service for used Form-A- Round if required.

Advantages Identified by Customers

Benefits and advantages of Form-A-RoundT identified by our Irish users over steel and plastic formwork include the following;

"We save at least 30mins per tube when propping them on site Vs fibreglass or steel..we also make approximately 20% saving on concrete Vs square columns."
Shane Bonner of Bonner & Company Ltd (Building Contractors)
  • Fairface finish cannot be matched by either fibreglass or steel boxes. Plastic and steel do not provide as smooth a finish as cardboard formwork, with vertical joint lines.
  • Lengths in both steel and plastic are very restrictive, requiring horizontal joint lines to get height and also multiple pours impairing finish and quality.
  • Do not have to oil the mould to strip as they would with the fibreglass and steel.
  • Less mess and less time on site when stripping.
  • Save at least 30mins per tube when propping on site Vs fibreglass or steel.
  • Approx 20% saving on concrete Vs square columns.
  • When require large quantities with a tight lead time will always use cardboard formwork.
  • If pouring 30 columns but have 5 steel boxes, 6 separate concrete pours are required with 1 to 2 days between pours Vs single pour, separate batches of concrete can occasionally lead to difference in colour, strength and finish.

One potential weakness of the cardboard formwork option is that if left lying in the wet for extended periods of time the form will become wet and lose its strength.

This can be avoided by use of an onsite storage container or coordinating delivery on site with the day of concrete pour (JIT).

Form-A-Round wins AIB Headquarters, Ballsbridge

Main Contractor: John Sisk
Formwork Contractor: Limestone Construction

..................................................................................................

After a very intense and rigorous bidding process Industrial Packaging's Form-A-Round tube won out over all competition. Competition included steel/fibreglass boxes, plastic formwork options and competitor cardboard versions. All samples were supplied to and tested by SISK engineering and AIB architects. Industrial Packaging's fair-faced finish was selected as the preferred option.

There were a total of 720 tubes of 500mm diameter poured over 5 floors. Our JIT system was implemented with excellent effect with a truck carrying sixteen 500mm diameter tubes to site three times a week, allowing Limestone Construction to pour each section in a single day (16 pours per day).

The project was a complete success for the customer and Industrial Packaging alike. This contract has led to Limestone Construction recommending to architects when designing new buildings that circular pillars provide a much better finish than square, and are also a cost saver in time and materials onsite.
